For an uplifting of the spirit, and a better day. GOD'S WORD EVERY DAY! Dial 920-452-PRAY (920-452-7729)

Volume 1 No. 1, December 2005

From Rev. Bryan Osladil, Pastoral Advisor

"In all my prayers for you, I always pray with joy because of your partnership in the gospel from the first day until now, being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus". (Phil. 1:4-6)

With these words the apostle Paul writes of his appreciation for the Philippian participation in the ministry of carrying out and living out the gospel of Jesus Christ. It was with their supportive gifts of prayer, finances and of themselves that he continues to give thanks and praise to God.

As Dial 452-PRAY continues into its 30th year, we also thank God for your partnership in this phone ministry. Many have been lifted up by the message of hope in Christ Jesus, and we pray that we might be able to facilitate the hearing of that message well into the future.

I have had the privilege of serving in the Sheboygan area for over 17 years. During the last two years I have been blessed to serve as the pastoral advisor for this ministry. It is with great anticipation that I look forward to seeing how God might use our efforts for the benefit of His people and to the glory of His name.

30th Anniversary Observed

At the annual meeting on November 14, 2005, Dial 452-PRAY celebrated 30 years of providing the Sheboygan area with a Christ-centered telephone message. Dale Radke, whose God-Love telephone ministry in Milwaukee inspired the formation of Dial 452-PRAY was guest speaker. His message was "It is more Than Dial-A-Prayer".

Officers, message preparers, pastoral advisors and callers have come and gone; but God’s Word remains constant. Dial 452-PRAY is grateful to have been privileged to share this Word for 30 years, and we look forward to many more years of service.

Twelve Churches Provide Telephone Messages

Dial 452-PRAY is blessed to have twelve Sheboygan-area LCMS churches whose members prepare messages to be heard on the telephone. Each church is responsible for one month’s messages and the church representative enlists four volunteers – each of whom prepares one week’s messages. These volunteers are mostly laypersons; however, some pastors offer their services as well. Sheboygan churches which are currently preparing messages are: Bethlehem, Good Shepherd, Immanuel, Our Redeemer, Our Savior’s, St. Mark, and Trinity. Other churches participating are: Bethany (Kohler), Grace (Haven), St. Paul (Sheboygan Falls), St. Thomas (Town of Lima), and Trinity (Town of Wilson).

What Does it Cost?

452 – quarterly amount needed to meet monthly bills for the telephone, advertising, the web site and supplies

P – perseverance by all involved in this telephone ministry

R – recorders who take the time to deliver a daily Christ-centered message

A – attention to prayers for the ministry and those involved

Y – your personal interest in Dial 452-PRAY in order to get the gospel out to all. Call, record, pray, donate, serve!

WHAT IS THE COUNT? How many phone calls does the Dial 452-PRAY line receive each day?

This year we are averaging between fourteen and nineteen calls per day. Over the last four years, the count has been as high as twenty-one calls and as low as thirteen calls per day.

What can we do to increase the number of calls? We can call 452-PRAY ourselves and listen to the inspiring message for the day; or how about adding a short note when you send a card to family or friends? Here are some ideas you could use:

  1. At the end of the day – Dial 452-PRAY
  2. Here God’s Love Today – Dial 452-PRAY

The message is changed every day and is available 24 hours. We thank the twelve churches who currently participate in recording messages. We also thank Rob and Trish Fischer who change the messages during the week, and Donald Braatz and Mark Cyr who change the messages on weekends and holidays.

DIAL 452-PRAY WISH LIST.

Most of us have had a wish-list at some time in our lives. Did we ever receive any of the things we wished for? Well, one of DIAL 452-PRAY’s digital recorders has had serious problems. We can no longer use it. After contacting Olympus (the manufacturer), a newer version of the recorder was purchased. We are working on setting it up and hope it will work well. This is an example of your donation dollars at work.

We could also use donations of Portals of Prayer or older devotional books. Our final wish is that each of us would help to spread the word of 452-PRAY!
